Hempsted Playgroup and Toddlers
Fire Policy and procedures
All staff, visitors and volunteers at Hempsted Playgroup and Toddlers will be aware of the following: -
· Hempsted Church of England Primary School and Hempsted Playgroup are on the same site and the Fire Alarms are arranged to notify each other in case of a fire.
· In the event of a fire all staff will remain calm and will encourage the children to remain calm and keep together.
· A member of staff will collect the register in the event of a fire.
· The register with emergency contacts is kept in a consistent place in the Playgroup setting.
· A member of staff will check all areas of the building for any remaining children or adults.
· A member of staff will check that all confidential records are secured in the event of an evacuation of the building (if safe to do so).
· A personal Evacuation plan will be put in place for individuals who require support and their photo will be displayed on the personal evacuation plan sheet by fire exit to inform staff, visitors and volunteers of who has a plan in place and need support in an emergency evacuation.
· In the event of a fire / evacuation a member of staff will ensure that any child with a hearing impediment is aware of what is going on and of the procedure that will follow. This is also relevant to any child who has a personal evacuation form. All members of staff are to be aware of those on a personal evacuation plan.
· Everyone in the building will leave the building as per the usual fire drill, and assemble at the nominated assembly point. The dragon path on the school playground is our allocated point.
· On assembly at the assembly point the register will be checked to ensure that everyone is present.
· Each fire drill will be reviewed after evaluating any complications/problems that may have occurred and listing any actions that may need to be taken.
· A comprehensive fire safety risk assessment is carried out annually. Through out the year this will be monitored and reviewed each term to evaluate any changes.
Emergency Evacuation procedure
A Playgroup informal emergency evacuation Drill will take place every term. Hempsted Primary School also arrange a formal fire drill with us which we take part in.
A record of this will be made in the Emergency Evacuation Drill book stating any difficulties/problems that may have occurred and any changes that need to be made.
Emergency Evacuation procedures are displayed on our notice board.
The procedures are as follows: -
A member of staff will blow a whistle or fire alarm will sound and everyone will quickly and calmly move immediately to the appropriate exit doors.
In the setting there are two possible exits that may be used in the practice; which one, is decided at the start of the practice.
A member of staff will collect the register including the emergency contact list.
Those who have a personal evacuation form will be supported by a member of staff.
The member of staff who is last to exit will check all areas of the building for any remaining children or adults.
Once everyone has exited the building everyone will assemble on the dragon path on the school playground.
The Play Leader will take the register and account for everyone.
Duty parents must leave the building taking any visiting children with them on immediately hearing the whistle.
In the event of a real fire the Deputy Leader will go to the nearest telephone and call the emergency services.
